Your child might forget to do their homework, do their homework but not hand it in, do it sloppily or carelessly, or not study properly for their test. Therefore I would recommend you to start searching for help (and by help I mean serious, evidence-based treatment together with all possible adaptations of your academic environment) ASAP, even if this means for you to painfully disclose some of the most shameful weaknesses you might have.Over the years, I’ve talked to many parents who are in the trenches with their kids, and I’ve seen firsthand that there are many creative ways kids rebel when it comes to schoolwork. I feel stupid now that I didn't do it back then, it would have spared me hundreds of humiliations, depressions and years of wasted opportunities. I struggled with this shit for almost 20 years now and was all this time reluctant to seek help. And even if you manage to come out of this alone: it will hit you hard in the next round of your career, if not treated properly. And it has nothing to do with personal failure, instead you could see it as one of the worst symptoms of an adverse malfunction of your brain which makes your life way harder and frustrating than anybody with a normal brain could even imagine. It must therefore be addressed by all means necessary. What I learned is this: Long lasting executive dysfunction is a serious issue that has the potential to fuck up an entire life and even whole families. Now, three months later, I feel much better. I was diagnosed with depression and afterwards my ADHD became kind of an issue. The last time I was in this situation (with work) I finally went to the doctor and asked for help there.
